Nunuavut Tunngavik Inc. Announces the 5th Annual Inuktuuqta! Writing Prize
(October 7, 2026, Iqaluit, Nunavut) - Gloria Uluqsi, President of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and Chair of the Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation, would like to announce the fifth annual Inuktuuqta! Writing Prize.
Inuktuuqta! will award one Nunavut Inuk author a grand prize of up to $80,000, along with support to complete a full-length book in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun. As in previous years, four additional prizes will also be awarded. The Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation (NTF) will work closely with the winning authors to help them complete and publish their work.
This year's theme is non-fiction biography: defined as a detailed description or account of a person's life. It involves more than just basic facts like education, work, relationships, and death. It portrays a person's experience of these life events.
“Inuktuuqta! is an investment in the future of our language and our stories. Our history should be told by Inuit, in our own languages. Through this prize, we are supporting Inuit writers to record the lives, experiences and knowledge of the people who have shaped our families and communities, so those stories can be carried forward for generations to come.” – Gloria Uluqsi, President of Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. and Chair of the Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation.
The Inuktut written work must be an original piece created by the author and must not have been previously published. Submissions must not contain content written by others (plagiarism). However, the completed work may be co-published with another organization or publisher.
All submissions must be written in Inuktitut or Inuinnaqtun and include:
- A completed application form; and
- An outline of the proposed full-length written work, which is expected to be between 8 and 12 double-spaced pages in length.
